Winter sports opportunities
Downhill and cross-country skiing
The surroundings of Dobšiná offer excellent winter sports opportunities. The most sought-after ski resort in the Slovak Paradise is SKI Mlynky-Dedinky resort, comprising three centres – Gugel, Biele Vody and Dedinky. The main attractions of the resort are a Snow Castle with a castle kindergarten and a spiral chute for snow rafting, and an Ice Castle for ice-climbing with an instructor. Right at the foot of the Kráľova hoľa mountain, in the valley between the Low Tatras, the Slovak Paradise and the Slovak Ore Mountains, lies the ski resort SKI Telgárt. Alternatively, you can visit the ski resorts Július – Vyšná Slaná and SKI Rejdová. In case of fair snow conditions you can also enjoy all sporting opportunities of the cross-country skiing centre Mlynky-Biele Vody with six groomed cross-country circuits and skiing tracks near Dobšinská Ice Cave.
Winter hiking and ice-climbing
Many waymarked tourist trails are accessible in summer as well as in winter. A winter hike from Dobšinský kopec through Čuntava to Dobšiná is indeed a magnificent hiking experience.
Enthusiasts of more demanding winter sports can revel in ice-climbing, which is allowed from 1st December until 15th March on main rivers in following gorges: Suchá Belá, Kláštorská roklina, Sokolia dolina, and in a designated area in Letanovský mlyn.
