The National Park Slovak Paradise
Slovak paradise (Slovenský raj) and its vicinity represents one of the most attractive tourist localities in mountainous Slovakia. Its considerably small area offers abundance of natural treasures, precious flora and diversified fauna. Since 1988, the area has been a National park. The tourists are attracted here by mountain meadows, hilltops with stunning outlooks and, above all, peculiar world of canyons, gorges and ravines.
Slovak paradise provides fantastic conditions for hiking and cross-country cycling in the middle of fascinating natural scenery. The main tourist centres from which you can head out for walks and hikes are Čingov, Kláštorisko, Dedinky and Podlesok.
Slovak paradise encompasses one of the most precious complexes of Western-Carpathian flora consisting of a large variety of plant species. More than 4 000 species of invertebrates were identified here. The area provides a habitat for over 2 000 butterfly species, some of which occur only here. Nowadays, almost one third of Slovak paradise’s area lies within the area of the highest degree of protection.
